LGBT History Month
February is LGBT History month which aims to promote equality and diversity by increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) people, their history, lives and their experiences. On Saturday 21 February St Mary's Church in Hinckley hosted an evening service of remembrance and celebration.
The Chief Executive Officer at Leicester LGBT Centre, Paul Fitzgerald, spoke at the event.
This is the main event marking LGBT History Month in Hinckley and Bosworth. It will start with a service/reflection, led by Reverend John Whittaker, and including readings, songs, and a quiet time. This will be followed by a tea/coffee (and even some biscuits!) reception, including speeches from Councillor Mathew Hulbert and Leicester LGBT Centre’s CEO Paul Fitzgerald, among others. Councillor Hulbert says, “We’re delighted to be able to put on this event in our town and Borough and be part of the nationwide reflections and celebrations to mark this very important month, as we remember past generations of LGBT Heroes who never got to live to see many of the advances, certainly in most of the UK, that we have today whilst, of course, remembering all there is still to do-here and abroad-for us to have true equality.”
